How Did Mother’s Day Come to Be?


Mother’s Day celebration dates to the ancient Romans and Greeks, where festivals were held to honor the mother goddesses Cybele and Rhea. However, later on, Christian Mothering Sunday also appeared, symbolizing the return to the “mother church.”


With that in mind, American Mother’s Day was started in the 1900s by Anna Jarvis.
