How Did the Mid Autumn Festival Come About?

The Mid Autumn Festival (also referred to as the Mooncake Festival) is a religious holiday that takes place in September. It celebrates the autumn harvest in Singapore.

The earliest forms of the Mooncake festival started about 3,000 years ago, during the Zhou Dynasty. Traditional customs would celebrate nature and good harvest as they feasted and threw big parties.

Moon worshipping is traditional from ancient China, where even emperors followed the customs. They believed that as long as they worshipped the moon, they will not be affected by harsh winters (or black winter, as they called it).

Once these customs became accepted by the masses throughout the seasons, they turned into a festival.

What Are Mooncakes?

Mooncakes are bakery products of Chinese origin that are typically consumed during this event. They are a type of pastry or snack and have a savoury, sweet filling.

Typically, they are round in shape so that they take the form of the moon hence the term mooncakes. However, you may also find them in the shape of a square.

Mooncakes can have a variety of fillings, from sweet bean and lotus seed paste to jujube, butterfly pea or any other kind of exotic fruit.

Over the years, mooncake filling took non-traditional routes such as ice cream, alcohol infusion paste, red velvet and so on.

The filling actually depends on the imagination of the bakers that create them.

In our case, the main filling for our durian mooncakes is the beloved durian, an exquisite taste and a very popular one in Singapore.

How Do We Celebrate Mooncake Festival in Singapore?

Celebrating the Mooncake Festival might not be as big an event as Chinese New Year but there are still many fun things for us to do.

Of course, the most obvious one would be buying and sharing mooncakes with each other. With the wide range of flavours these days, there's something for everyone.

At the Mooncake Festival, we light lanterns and take a walk at the park as we enjoy a good time with our family. There are also many lighting features that are put up all over Singapore.

The Mooncake Festival is a time of self-reflection, one in which we express our gratitude for a good harvest for health and wealth.

What Type Of Mooncakes Do You Offer?

For our 2022 collection, we will be offering the Mao Shan Wang snowskin mooncake and the D24 snowskin mooncake.

D24 Mooncake

The D24 snowskin mooncake has a slightly more subtle flavour and is less overwhelming on the palate. In terms of the taste profile, the D24 consistently delivers creamy and sweet flavour notes.

Mao Shan Wang Mooncake

Aside from the D24 cake, we also offer another popular durian mooncake option that many Singaporeans love. The Mao Shan Wang snowskin mooncake.

The Musang King is considered to be, as the name suggests, the King of Durians.

The Mao Shan Wang durian mooncake is the perfect choice for those who like their durian sweet, overwhelming and complex.  Mao Shan Wang durian mooncakes are very satisfying for the taste buds.

How Long Can Durian Snowskin Mooncakes Last?

Keeping durian snowskin fresh in Singapore can be challenging.

To be safe, durian snowskin mooncakes shouldn't be kept at room temperature for more than two or three hours.

For the best taste, keep in the FREEZER.

As long as you keep them in the freezer, durian snowskin mooncakes can last for 3-4 days. In order to maintain their softness, you might want to keep them in an airtight container.

If you want the durian mooncake to last even longer than that, you can put it in the freezer. Mao shan wang durian mooncakes can last as long as 3-4 days.

Just make sure that you pack the durian mooncakes separately. If you don't, they will stick to each other as they freeze.
